Hawaiian Islands Weather TOP

Synopsis: Breezy trade wind weather is expected-continue today, with showers favoring windward and mauka areas. An area increased moisture approaching the Big Island will bring additional showers-the southern end the chain today. High pressure-the northeast the state will remain nearly stationary into Saturday, but a surface trough moving over the islands from the southeast will help-disrupt the trade wind flow. A front approaching the islands from the northwest is expected-reach the islands Monday.
Discussion: The high pressure system northeast the islands is expected-remain nearly stationary through Saturday morning, and then start-move-the east away from the islands. Meanwhile, a surface trough southeast the islands today will move-the west. With the trough-the southeast this morning, the tight pressure gradient between the trough and the high continues-bring some breezy trade winds-the main Hawaiian islands. The winds on Mauna Kea have steadily increased overnight, likely in response-the upper level winds associated with the surface trough. The global models ...
Aviation: Moderate-fresh trade winds will continue through the day. Trades are expected-begin-ease gradually tonight into Saturday as a front far-the NW approaches the area. Currently, airmet tango for low level turb remains posted. Airmet sierra for mtn obsc has been expanded-include areas from Upolu Point-Cape Kumukahi-South Point. Enhanced moisture and a surface trough have allowed for increased shower activity over the eastern half the Big Island. Windward Maui is likely-see similar conditions later today, and an airmet will be issued as needed. Tops are reaching 10 ...
Marine: A small craft advisory /sca/ remains posted for the Kaiwi Channel and the typically windier waters today. Based on the latest forecast, the SCA will likely be dropped for all areas late Friday night or early Saturday morning as the trade winds continue-gradually weaken. Sca conditions may spread down across the waters surrounding Kauai, and possibly Oahu early next week after the front passes over the western islands. Northwest swells are expected-continue-produce modest surf along most north and west facing shores the smaller Hawaiian islands through Saturday night. A ...
