Synopsis: Muggy conditions will continue through much the week. Light trade winds will return by tonight, but still allow for localized afternoon sea breezes and interior clouds and showers. The light trades may break down again late week, leading-continued muggy conditions with more widespread sea breezes and afternoon clouds and showers.
Discussion: Water vapor imagery shows an upper level trough nearly stationary over the state. At the surface, low pressure is located far-the northeast,, cold front extending southwestward toward the state. The trailing end the front/surface trough is located between Maui and the Big Island, having passed across the smaller islands earlier night. High pressure is located far northwest the state. 12Z soundings from Hilo and Lihue show an unstable profile with only a weak subtle inversion near 12kft. Precipitable waters near 1.65-1.77 inches. Early morning mimic total ...
Aviation: A dissipating band moisture is moving slowly S over the area, and contains areas MVFR vis/cig in SHRA and isol IFR vis/cig in +shra, with isol tops-fl350 noted S and SW Kauai earlier this morning. Where this band intersects island terrain, an airmet is posted for mountain obscuration. As the band moves S most/all islands this afternoon and tonight, a quiet and relatively dry light ne-e low level flow is expected, and the airmet will likely be cancelled. Terminals will be prevailing VFR, although a period MVFR cig is expected at PHNY through mid-afternoon, and there is a ...
Marine: The current long period south swell is producing advisory level surf along south facing shores. The Barbers Point buoy has been showing 5 feet t/17 seconds through the night and this morning, and wavewatch iii guidance has this swell gradually diminishing through the week. A northwest swell 3-4 feet/13 seconds will also gradually diminish through Tuesday. Additional small north northwest swells can be expected during the rest the week. Winds and seas are expected-remain below small craft advisory levels through the forecast period.
